Each year, thousands of men in Europe are diagnosed with cancer. The European Cancer Organisation is committed to tackling all cancer types by spreading awareness, providing support and campaigning for greater prevention efforts. Therefore, we have set up the workstream 'Men and Cancer' because of men's significant excess burden of cancer incidence and mortality across the European region and because this issue is not yet being addressed effectively by policymakers regionally or nationally.
An important inititative of the workstream is a production of the Roadmap for Improvement, that will be launched on Wednesday 29 November at 16:30-17:30 CET at the European Parliament.
>Apply for registration.
The meeting will be co-chaired by Hendrik Van Poppel and Peter Baker, ECO Men and Cancer Workstream Co-Chairs, and Sarah Collen, ECO Inequalities Network Co-Chair.

Pioneering the Future of Inter-Specialty Cancer Education: Breaking down barriers and uniting expertise.
On 17 November, the day after the European Cancer Summit 2023, the event brought together leading oncology education experts from across Europe, and many others, to consider ground-breaking new methods and tools for improving inter-specialty cancer training.
The INTERACT-EUROPE project, a flagship element of Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan, has developed an innovative new approach to supporting new levels of cooperation between professions involved in cancer care by creating a first-of-its-kind inter-speciality cancer training curriculum.
Tested by a pioneer cohort, and with technology-enhanced features, the showcase event looked to the future as ambitions increased to embrace more than 100 cancer centres in 15 or more countries to the programme by 2027.

Accelerating Momentum: A manifesto to 2030
This Summit is special, and it's reflected in the slogan.
'Accelerating Momentum' highlights our impatience. The EU's Beating Cancer Plan is the opportunity of a lifetime. We're already implementing a variety of new projects to better care for cancer patients and survivors. But, together, we need to do much more - and much more quickly. The current EU Parliament comes to an end next year.
'A manifesto... ' refers to a detailed list of cancer care priorities and proposals compiled by the European Cancer Organisation from input received from its member societies and patient groups. The manifesto has been unveiled at the Summit, and we need to ensure every candidate standing in next year's European Parliamentary elections subscribes to this roadmap.
'...to 2030'... We cannot afford to wait. Cancer doesn't. We need to set clear deadlines for tangible progress.
If ever there was a time and a place to rally the European cancer community – this is it!
Save the Date: The next European Cancer Summit takes place on 20 & 21 November 2024

Genomic tumour testing plays a crucial role in precision medicine and personalised cancer treatment. By understanding the genetic makeup of a tumor, healthcare providers can tailor treatment strategies to individual patients, leading to improved outcomes. However, there are several challenges in implementing genomic tumour testing effectively, and this roundtable aims to address those challenges and discuss the way forward.

Liver disease is now the leading cause of years of working life lost in Europe, after ischaemic heart disease. Liver diseases are generally avoidable or treatable if measures for prevention and early detection are properly implemented; achieving this would reduce premature morbidity and mortality, saving the lives of almost 300,000 people across Europe each year. EASL is delighted to be relaunching the MEP Friends of the Liver Group. This is an interest group at the European Parliament aiming to raise awareness, put liver health higher on the political agenda, and to make policy recommendations.

The meeting on Primary Prevention, co-chaired by Matti Aapro, President of European Cancer Organisation and Rui Medeiros, President of European Cancer Leagues, aimed to share existing initiatives, so that this existing work can be amplified and collaborations explored beyond our Prevention Network.
During the consultation period on Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan, we held many discussions with organisations working in oncology, cardiology and other areas of healthcare. These conversations followed a meeting held with the EU Commissioner for Health and Food Safety, Stella Kyriakides, last year where we agreed that it was extremely important that Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan brings together the excellent existing work of many stakeholders to improve public health.
Watch the recording from the meeting here.
We have also set up a Primary Prevention Hub where we will add videos, documents or resources on the topic of Primary Prevention, shared by the participants of this meeting.
