Renforcer la France et l'Europe dans la lutte contre le cancer : Perpétuer le travail de Véronique TRILLET-LENOIR

Le cancer représente une menace de santé publique majeure en France, et pour y faire face, le gouvernement français a lancé une stratégie ambitieuse sur 10 ans. Bien que le pays poursuive sa trajectoire vers les principaux objectifs politiques de l'UE, des difficultés significatives persistent, telles que les inégalités sociales dans les soins de santé et le manque de progrès en matière de prévention du cancer. De plus, et comme partout en Europe, la France peine à faire face à la crise croissante touchant le personnel de santé en oncologie.

Véronique Trillet-Lenoir était oncologue et membre du Parlement Européen, admirée dans toute l'Europe non seulement pour sa lutte sans relâche contre le cancer mais aussi pour ses efforts visant à renforcer et à élargir les politiques en matière de cancer via le Plan européen de lutte contre le cancer (Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan).

En écho à l'héritage de Véronique Trillet-Lenoir, la European Cancer Organisation (ECO, Organisation Européenne du Cancer) a travaillé en étroite collaboration avec ses organisations membres et associations de patients pour produire son Manifeste « Time to Accelerate for Europe – Together Against Cancer ».

Le 13 mai, ECO et l’Institut Curie unissent leurs forces pour organiser un événement spécial en l'honneur du travail mené par Véronique Trillet-Lenoir, qui mettra particulièrement l’accent sur l'avancée du dépistage du cancer et la question de la pénurie de professionnels de santé en oncologie.

Strengthening France and Europe in the Fight Against Cancer: Perpetuating the work of Véronique Trillet-Lenoir

Cancer is a major public health threat in France, and the French government has launched an ambitious 10-year strategy to address it. Although the country is making progress towards key EU policy goals, significant issues persist, such as social inequalities in healthcare and a lack of progress on cancer prevention. In addition, and like elsewhere in Europe, France is struggling to cope with the growing crisis in the cancer workforce.  

Véronique Trillet-Lenoir was an oncologist and member of the European Parliament. She was admired throughout Europe for her relentless fight against cancer and her efforts to enhance and expand cancer policy via Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan.

Echoing Prof Trillet-Lenoir’s legacy, the European Cancer Organisation (ECO) as worked closely with member societies and patient associations to produce its Time to Accelerate: for Europe Manifesto. Recommendations include:

On 13 May, ECO and Institut Curie are joining forces to host a special event to honour the work of Prof Trillet-Lenoir, with a special focus on improving cancer screening and adessing the shortage of cancer care professionals.
