Tomislav Sokol obtained a Masters of Law (LL.M.) specialising in European Union Law at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (KUL), Belgium, in 2009, magna cum laude. He defended his PhD at KUL, dealing with free movement of cross-border healthcare services in the EU and its impact on national health insurance systems in 2014.

Tomislav is a Croatian Politician, member of the Croatian Democratic Union party (HDZ). He served as a Member of the Croatian Parliament until June 2019 when he became a Member of the European Parliament. Among his other duties in the European Parliament, he was a substitute member of the Special Committee on beating Cancer (BECA) and become a key politician in Brussels in the area of healthcare as he was member of the Special Committee on Covid-19 (COVI) and now he’s a leading member of the SubCommittee on Public Health.

He negotiated the European Health Data Space (EHDS) on behalf of the European Parliament, an innovative regulation aimed to regulate data sharing framework for health data in the European Union and aims to provide EU citizens better control over their personal health data.

Tomislav hosted the kick-off of INTERACT-EUROPE; a landmarking initiative of the Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan and a co-funded EU project to promote inter-specialty cancer training, coordinated by the European Cancer Organisation.

Tomislav is a founding member of National & European Parliamentarians for Cancer Action.
