CANDLE
Project Duration: 1 June 2025 – 31 May 2028
The CANDLE project, launched on 1 June 2025, is a landmark initiative funded under Horizon Europe to significantly improve the management of cancer data across EU Member States.
Coordinated by Health-RI, and comprising a consortium of 40 organisations from 20 countries, CANDLE will establish and support National Cancer Data Nodes.
These nodes will make cancer data easily discoverable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable (FAIR), thereby improving the efficiency and effectiveness of cancer research and patient care throughout Europe.
CANDLE will closely integrate with other key European initiatives, such as the UNCAN.eu platform and the European Cancer Patient Digital Centre (ECPDC) to ensure these resources align and remain complementary.
Throughout, ECO will play an important role, engaging cancer patients, healthcare professionals, policymakers, and civil society groups. ECO's involvement ensures the project outcomes reflect the needs and expectations of the cancer community.
CANDLE supports the objectives of the EU Mission on Cancer and Europe's Beating Cancer Plan to deliver a sustainable and scalable framework for cancer data sharing, which can lead to improved diagnosis, treatment, and outcomes for cancer patients across Europe.
