European Conference on Interventional Oncology offers free registration to non-radiologists to strengthen interdisciplinary teamwork

22 February 2024

The European Conference on Interventional Oncology – ECIO 2024 – will take place from April 28-May 1 in Palma de Mallorca, providing a comprehensive, interdisciplinary platform for the discussion of state-of-the-art minimally invasive cancer care. Highlight topics will include combination strategies for HCC treatment, immuno-oncology, paediatric interventional oncology (IO), AI for IO, and many more – the prevailing theme being interdisciplinary teamwork to offer the best possible cancer care. In this spirit, ECIO 2024 will also feature a joint session with the European SocieTy for Radiotherapy and Oncology (ESTRO) and a session with the European Society for Organ Transplantation (ESOT).

To further strengthen the awareness within MDTs of all that interventional oncology can do for patients, ECIO offers the possibility for non-radiologists to attend the congress together with their interventionalist colleagues free of charge with up to € 1,000 in travel support via the Collaborating Against Cancer Initiative. This programme has been taken up by numerous surgeons, medical oncologists, and other physicians to deepen their understanding of minimally invasive cancer care. Find out more, read testimonials from past participants, and register here!

For interventionalists who are not yet involved in interventional oncology (IO), ECIO will host an IO Foundation Course one day prior to ECIO 2024 offering a first overview of the most important IO procedures and how they fit into a truly multidisciplinary approach to cancer care. In addition to getting to know the IO toolkit, participants will learn about the main elements of oncology care provided by the various MDT members, including the essentials of surgical, medical and radiation oncology, and relevant aspects of histopathology.

'The Collaborating Against Cancer Initiative provides a wonderful opportunity to further strengthen multidisciplinary teamwork within the MDT, as we should all be aware of each other’s strengths to provide the best possible care for the patient.'

Prof. Laura Crocetti
ECIO 2024 Chairperson
