Responding to news this morning that the European Parliament has voted to weaken the report of the Special Committee on Beating Cancer via amendments to its section on cancer prevention, Professor Andreas Charalambous, President of the European Cancer Organisation, said:
“The results of the European Parliament’s vote this morning are deeply disappointing for the cancer community. Citizens have a right to information about the health risks related to the consumption of products they purchase. The European Cancer Organisation, with partners from across the scientific and public health community, will continue to make the case for warning labels on alcohol products. We hope more Members of the European Parliament will see the need to put public health first on this issue.”
