ECO Response to the Call for Evidence in Evaluating the Legislative Framework for Tobacco Control

In June 2022, the European Cancer Organisation (ECO) responded to European Commission Call for Evidence to evaluate to what extent the framework has fulfilled its goals and whether it is able to support a ‘tobacco-free generation’ by 2040, as announced in Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan.

ECO particularly raised attention to: 

• Scale and impact of tobacco consumption;
• Positive relationship between tobacco taxation and tobacco control
• Wider societal and public health benefits to be achieved from tobacco control
