The European Cancer Organisation, as a registered Non-State Actor with WHO Europe, participated in the 72nd session of the WHO Regional Committee for Europe which took place in Tel Aviv, Israel (12-14 September).
Peter Baker, an ECO Consultant, led the presentation of a Joint Statement on the road map to accelerate the elimination of cervical cancer as a public health problem in the WHO European Region 2022-2030.
The statement calls on the WHO to:
- Coordinate closely with the EU to achieve HPV cancer elimination in the entire WHO Europe Region;
- Pursue the elimination goal via the most effective strategy, namely, through gender neutral vaccination;
- Ensure the implementation of the elimination strategy takes account of all recent science and practice developments including HPV DNA testing and self-testing screening technologies; and,
- Bring about a whole-society, multi-stakeholder and multi-professional effort to achieve the goal.
