The European Cancer Organisation Welcomes European Parliament Resolution on Cancer

February 2026

Today, the European Parliament has urged Member States and the European Commission to renew their political commitment to the full implementation of Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan for the seven years covered by the next EU multi-annual budget.

The European Parliament Resolution calls on the European Commission and Member States to ensure adequate funding and concrete national action in delivering the Plan, including improved transparency, regular reporting and closer alignment with proven national best practices. It also highlights the importance of predictable and dedicated EU health funding, expressing concern that the Commission’s proposal for the forthcoming Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) does not include a ring-fenced health programme capable of sustaining long-term flagship initiatives such as Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan.

Members of the European Parliament further recognise health and oncology care as social investments, encouraging the use of national and European instruments to strengthen cancer infrastructure, including vaccination and screening programmes, modern equipment, workforce development and robust data systems.

The European Cancer Organisation welcomes the adoption of the Resolution and its clear acknowledgement that sustained political leadership and dedicated resources are essential to deliver meaningful progress for patients across Europe.

These developments reflect the continued efforts of the cancer community to ensure that cancer remains firmly anchored within the EU’s political and budgetary priorities, and to support policymakers with evidence, expertise and collaboration.

The European Cancer Organisation also notes the strong alignment between the Resolution and the priorities set out in last week’s Declaration of the European Parliament Intergroup on Cancer and Rare Diseases, many of whose recommendations are now echoed in today’s text.

Through its Reach Higher for Cancer Care campaign, the European Cancer Organisation remains committed to working closely with EU institutions, Member States and the Cancer Community to translate these commitments into tangible outcomes for all people affected by cancer.
