The SANGUINE Project Showcase Event:

Advancing the HemaChip from Research to Impact

Every year, around 300,000 people across the EU are diagnosed with a haematological malignancy, including leukaemia, lymphoma and multiple myeloma.

 

Yet diagnosing blood cancer remains a complex challenge. With more than 100 different types and subtypes, many diseases share overlapping clinical and laboratory features, requiring multiple tests to reach an accurate diagnosis.

 

As part of the EU Cancer Mission, the SANGUINE project has set out to change this. Over the past four years, this EU-funded initiative has worked to tackle this issue and revolutionise blood cancer detection. Its flagship innovation, the HemaChip, can screen for multiple blood cancers simultaneously through a fast, minimally invasive and cost-effective test.

 

Join us in Brussels on 13–14 October to highlight the groundbreaking achievements of the SANGUINE project, explore the science behind the HemaChip, share lessons learned, and discuss next steps for scaling up this promising innovation to benefit patients across Europe and beyond. Registrations are now open.

Breakthroughs in cancer research and biomedical technology have transformed the detection and treatment of blood cancers, saving thousands of lives every year.

The HemaChip represents another major step forward. By eliminating the need for sequencing, it significantly reduces the cost of testing while supporting faster diagnosis, improved patient outcomes, and more effective population-based screening programmes.

The panel will consider how Europe can better support promising technologies through the full innovation pathway and ensure they ultimately reach patients.

The discussion will cover:

  • Current barriers and challenges in translating blood cancer diagnosis innovation into practice, and reflection on possible solutions
  • How investment in research and innovation can strengthen Europe’s competitiveness in life sciences
  • What makes an innovative project more prone to investment: an EU venture capitalist’s perspective
  • The contribution of the EU Cancer Mission to advancing European innovation
