The EU has set an ambitious target: the elimination of all HPV-related cancers. But how close are we to reaching that goal, and what still needs to be done to cross the finish line?
On 15 July, the European Cancer Organisation and its HPV and Hep B Action Network, in collaboration with MEP Tilly Metz, will host a high-level event at the European Parliament to reflect on the EU’s progress so far and reignite political momentum for the road ahead.
The event will explore the impact of Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan and the recent Council Recommendation on vaccine-preventable cancers, while also considering what more is needed, particularly in the context of the upcoming EU multiannual financial framework and the future of cancer policy in Europe.
Discussions will centre on the cost-effectiveness of HPV vaccination, the benefits of a gender-neutral approach, and the need for better data monitoring and surveillance. Attention will also be given to regional challenges and opportunities to scale up successful strategies across Member States. Advances in cervical cancer screening, including HPV testing and self-sampling, will also feature prominently.
Participants will also be invited to join an interactive Q&A session to share experiences and help shape the way forward. This event is an opportunity to reinforce the EU’s leadership in HPV cancer prevention, highlight best practices, and build collective momentum for one of Europe’s most achievable cancer goals.
The full event agenda will be uploaded soon.
Please note that in-person attendance is limited; however, online participation remains fully open to all.
