PredictAYA

Project duration: 1 June 2025 – 30 May 2030

PredictAYA is a multidisciplinary research project funded by Horizon Europe to better understand the late effects of cancer treatments on adolescents and young adults (AYAs) aged 15-39.

The initiative leverages existing population-based registries, large genomic biobanks, and new clinical AYA cohorts to explore treatment-induced toxicities, with a primary focus on reproductive health. Emphasising patient participation and a co-creation approach, the project incorporates the lived experiences, care preferences, and psychosocial impacts, - including effects on fertility, sexuality, and overall quality of life of AYAs across Europe.

A key goal of PredictAYA is to identify and validate genetic biomarkers that explain individual variability in treatment-related organ toxicity, especially reproductive toxicity. These findings support the development of precision medicine for more personalised screening and counselling strategies. Additional areas of investigation include the risks and timing of pregnancy, accelerated ageing, child health outcomes, and the safety and effectiveness of fertility preservation techniques.

ECO is leading efforts in stakeholder engagement, policy, and collaboration within the Cancer Mission’s 'Quality of Life (AYA)' cluster as well as other AYA European initiatives.
