Project Duration: September 2026 to August 2030
Malnutrition is a significant challenge for older people with cancer, affecting their quality of life, physical health and ability to cope with treatment. Despite its impact, malnutrition often remains underdiagnosed and inadequately managed in cancer care.
NutriCa65 is a four-year EU-funded research project coordinated by the University of Bergen (Norway). It aims to investigate whether early, personalised nutritional care can improve quality of life and health outcomes for people aged 65 and over diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia or pancreatic cancer.
The project will conduct two multicentre clinical trials across Europe, evaluating nutritional interventions tailored to patients' individual needs. Delivered by dietitians and supported by a digital health application, these interventions will address malnutrition and related conditions, including frailty and loss of muscle mass.
Patients, caregivers and healthcare professionals will be involved in shaping the interventions to ensure they respond to real-world needs. The findings will help inform the integration of personalised nutritional support into routine cancer care.
ECO leads the work package on Dissemination and Communication, helping to raise awareness of NutriCa65, communicate its activities and findings, and engage patients, healthcare professionals, policymakers and other relevant stakeholders. ECO also coordinates the project's Dissemination and Exploitation Plan, supporting the wider dissemination and uptake of its results.
