Severien Van Keer holds a Master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences and a PhD in Medicine and Health Sciences from the University of Antwerp. She currently continues her academic career as an Assistant Professor at the Vaccine & Infectious Disease Institute (VAXINFECTIO), University of Antwerp.
Recently, she was awarded a senior postdoctoral fellowship by the Research Foundation – Flanders (FWO) to advance her clinical and translational cancer research. Her work focuses on evaluating the clinical performance and acceptability of HPV DNA testing in first-void urine, combined with host cell methylation marker triage (e.g., www.ScreenUrSelf.be).
Building on this foundation, her research is now expanding toward screening for other female gynaecological cancers, using self-sampling for cervical cancer as a model for broader applications.
