Dr. Partha Basu is Head of the Early Detection, Prevention and Infections Branch at the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), World Health Organization (WHO), France. Before joining IARC in 2015, Dr. Basu served as Head of the Department of Gynecological Oncology at the National Cancer Institute, India. He is internationally recognized for research that has shaped several WHO guidelines and global recommendations. His work has also driven technology development in the field, including thermal ablation for cervical precancer, HPV detection methods, and AI-assisted cervical neoplasia detection. Through the CanScreen5 project, Dr. Basu has played a pivotal role in building global capacity for quality-assured cancer early detection services across diverse healthcare systems.

He has authored over 320 peer-reviewed publications, cited more than 12,000 times, and continues to be a leading voice in advancing cancer prevention and early detection worldwide. In recognition of his contributions, he was awarded the Honorary Fellowship of the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists (UK) in 2023 and Visiting Professorship at Zhejiang Cancer Hospital (affiliated to Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences), Hangzhou, China.
