Mireille Broeders, PhD, is a cancer screening epidemiologist and Professor of Personalized Cancer Screening at the IQ Health science department of the Radboud university medical center in Nijmegen. She first became involved in cancer screening during her PhD project (Radboud University, 2004), in which she evaluated the impact of the Nijmegen breast screening programme, established already in the mid-70s. Over the past decade, she has developed a research line focused on identifying the added value of introducing personalized, risk-based approaches in the current age-based cancer screening programmes, with a particular emphasis on breast cancer screening.  She is the principal investigator of the nation-wide PRISMA (Personalised RISk-based Mammography screening) and STREAM (Screening Tomosynthesis trial with advanced REAding Methods) studies. Prof. Broeders is a member of the National Evaluation Team for Breast Cancer screening and serves as vice-chair of the standing committee on Population Screening of the Dutch Health Council. In addition, she holds a position as scientific supervisor at the Dutch Expert Centre for Screening in Nijmegen. All research projects at the Expert Centre are aimed at safeguarding and continuously improving the quality of the breast cancer screening programme through the evaluation and implementation of technological innovations. At an international level, Prof. Broeders is a member of the European Commission Initiative on Breast Cancer Working Group and is the Past Chair of the Steering Committee of the International Cancer Screening Network.
