Matthias Rose

Matthias Rose is Head of the Department of Psychosomatic Medicine at Charité in Berlin. It is one of the largest university-based psychosomatic medicine departments worldwide. Professor Rose is board-certified in internal medicine and psychosomatic medicine, and he is also a licensed medical psychotherapist. He is Co-Director of the Charité Spine Center, a member of the management board of the German Center for Mental Health (DZPG), Principal Investigator at the Berlin site of the National Center for Tumor Diseases (NCT), and serves on the board of the Lilly Germany Foundation.

Professor Rose’s research focuses on the assessment of patient-reported health outcomes. Until 2019, he also served as Associate Professor of Modern Psychometrics at the Department of Quantitative Health Sciences at the University of Massachusetts. Since 2004, he has been involved in the U.S. initiative to develop the Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS), and since 2006, he has been an active member of the Quality of Life Group of the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC).

In addition to his methodological and clinical research, Professor Rose has increasingly focused in recent years on data integration. His work addresses how patient perspectives can be systematically incorporated into clinical practice while also enabling meaningful aggregated analyses across international contexts.

Professor Rose is Chair of the German Society for Patient-Reported Outcomes and Health Data (DG-PRO) and founder of the Center for Patient-Centered Outcomes Research (CPCOR). He serves on expert advisory boards for the Bertelsmann Foundation and the German Pension Insurance, focusing on the implementation and use of patient-reported outcomes. In addition, he is a methodological expert for the Institute for Quality Assurance and Transparency in Healthcare (IQTIG) across multiple clinical areas.
