Director, Professional Development, European Association of Hospital Pharmacists (EAHP)

Despoina Makridaki has 35 years of work experience as a hospital pharmacist and is for the past 20 years Director of Pharmacy Services at the “Sismanogleio - Amalia Fleming” General Hospital of Attica (Greece), Director of Professional Development at the European Association of Hospital Pharmacists (EAHP) from June 2017 and Member of EAHP’s Scientific Committee since December 2014. She was appointed as 1st Vice President of the National Organization for Medicines (E.O.F) between April 2015 and June 2018. Ms Makridaki holds a degree in Pharmacy and an MSc in Clinical Pharmacy from the School of Pharmacy, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and is completing an MBA in Management of Healthcare units, from the National School of Public Health in Athens. She is the President of the Panhellenic Association of Hospital Pharmacists (PEFNI) since May 2013 and a Member of the Advisory Board of the Pharmacy School of Athens University, regarding the reformation of undergraduate and postgraduate studies from 2019 onwards. Ms Makridaki is a regular member of the National Committee for the Surveillance of Pharmaceutical Expenditure and Therapeutic protocols since May 2015. She has contributed not only to more than 30 clinical trials and numerous scientific publications. Also, Ms Makridaki organised and participated in national and international congresses in the fields of hospital pharmacy, pharmacoeconomics and clinical protocols.

She is Chairman of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee and Pharmacovigilance Committee and Coordinator of the COVID-19 Vaccination Centres in the Hospital Complex “Sismanoglio-Amalia Fleming” General Hospital of Attica, regarding all stages of vaccine storage, preparation, administration and pharmacovigilance. Ms Makridaki also coordinates the management of oral antiviral and monoclonal antibodies therapies against COVID-19 in the Attica region. She is the EAHP Board lead for the following countries: Greece, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia. She also represents EAHP at the EMA’s Healthcare Professionals’ Working Party and HERA. Her EAHP portfolio (as leader or co-leader) includes fields such as access to medicines, pricing and Health Technology Assessment, the Common Training Framework Working Groups, recruitment and mobilization of members, biologics, clinical trials, compounding/ready to use preparations/hazardous drugs [including exposure of healthcare professionals and public], Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products and orphan drugs and Procurement.
