Balazs Acs is an associate professor at the Department of Oncology-Pathology, Karolinska Institutet and a breast pathologist at the Karolinska University Hospital. He is the Chairman of the Swedish expert group in breast pathology. Microscopic examinations of histological sections have been the cornerstone of cancer diagnostics. However, with the advent of personalised medicine, biomarker interpretation becomes even more important. Thus, his work aims to transition qualitative and manual aspects of pathology into highly quantitative outputs and, as a result, augment efficiencies of physician-led pathology workflows, quality assurance and personalised medicine efforts. His research focuses on computational pathology and biomarker standardisation in cancer diagnostics.
