Since the very start of his professional tenure Doctor Andre is a passionate advocate for advancing patient care and cancer medicine. He is broadly and deeply engaged within the scientific and healthcare community towards enabling better care and faster access to essential medicines for people living with Cancer.
Since July 20024 Doctor Andre is leading the German Oncology organization, a critical early launch market and growth driver within the AZ global footprint. Previously he served as Global Immuno Oncology Franchise head for the AstraZeneca Oncology business unit, overseeing the global healthcare implementation and commercialization of the marketed and emerging AstraZeneca Immuno Oncology portfolio.
An Internist, Medical Oncologist and Hematologist by training, he received his medical degree from the University of Hamburg, Germany where he also obtained his Ph.D. for endocrine glucose metabolism studies. He subsequently continued his medical career in Germany and the U.S. – focusing on the support and treatment of cancer patients, finally heading up the Oncology / Hematology unit at the University Hospital in Bochum, Germany, until his move to the pharmaceutical Industry in 2006.
During his postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard University in Boston, U.S., he worked on preclinical models of tumor host interactions and angiogenesis. As a dedicated scientist and medical expert, Dr. Andre actively engaged in clinical research activities within the network of the German Collaborative Group AIO – becoming a strong advocate and enabler for cooperative research partnerships between Academia and Pharma.
Joining Roche in 2006 Doctor Andre engaged in the global clinical implementation of the first clinically available angiogenesis inhibitor and rapidly expanded his scope, exposure and leadership impact within the Roche local, regional and global Oncology lifecycle management, ultimately leading the global Roche Medical Affairs organization for the entire portfolio.
Doctor Andre is an active member of ASCO, AACR, ESMO and the German Cancer Society, maintaining a global network of Cancer specialists, Industry leaders and advocates, eager to collaborate at every possible level towards better outcomes for Cancer patients.
