Dr. Eleni (Lina) Tolma was born and raised in Nicosia and she is a proud alumnus of the historic Pancyprian Gymnasium. Upon her graduation from high-school she earned a scholarship from the Fullbright Commission and studied Pharmacy at Duquesne University in the US. She went on to complete an MPH and Ph.D in Public Health, concentrating on Health Promotion, Education and Behavior at the University of South Carolina. Dr. Tolma is now an associate professor at the University of Nicosia Medical School. Prior to her return to Cyprus in 2021, she was a faculty member at the newly established Faculty of Public Health, at Kuwait University (2017-2021), and at the College of Public Health, University of Oklahoma Health Science Center (2002-2016). Her main research focuses on the promotion of breast cancer screening among women from varied cultural backgrounds, including American Indian, Arab, and Cypriot. She also contributed to studies on positive youth development,Youth Asset Study (YAS), teen pregnancy prevention, evaluation of health promotion programs, and food insecurity. In 2022 she was appointed to the EU Horizon Mission on Cancer Board.
