Juanjo Abellan studied mathematics and statistics at the University of Valencia, where he also completed his PhD. He has worked as a statistician in various roles in Public Offices, Academia and the Pharmaceutical Industry in Spain, Germany and the UK. He has worked in several scientific disciplines such as Epidemiology, Genomics (of bacteria) and Clinical Drug Development, and he has several publications in scientific journals in those fields. His current interests focus on evidence generation and assessment to support decision making around the efficacy, effectiveness and safety of medicines. He has recently joined the European Medicines Agency (EMA) in the Netherlands and is part of the EMA team developing the Data Analysis and Real World Interrogation Network (DARWIN EU) for the generation of real-world evidence to support regulatory decision making.
