Graduated at the Charles University, Medical Faculty in Hradec Králové, Czech Republic (MD - 1994), Ph.D. in pathology (2001), board certification in pathology (2000). Working at The Fingerland Department of Pathology, Charles University Medical Faculty in Hradec Králové, Czech Republic (full Professor of Pathology - 2007). Currently chair of the department. Member of several scientific societies and editorial boards (International Academy of Pathology - Czech Division – president (2011-2021), Society of Czech Pathologists – president (2008-2016), European Society of Pathology - member of the Executive Council (2013-2017), European Society of Pathology – chair of the Education Subcommittee (2016-2019), European Society of Pathology – president (from 2021), ESP Foundation – board member (from 2018), Czech Oncologic Society – board member (2011-2019), Local Organizing Committee of the 24th European Congress of Pathology in Prague (2012) - chair, Local Organizing Committee of the 5th Pannonia Congress of Pathology (2018) - chair, Editorial board Czech-Slovak Pathology and Forensic Medicine, Editorial board Virchows Archiv - Associate Editor (2014-2020), Editorial board Clinical Oncology, Editorial Board of Cytopathology – Associate Editor (from 2021), Editorial Board of Pathology, Oncology, Research – Associate Editor (from 2021).

Interested namely in diagnostics of lesions of the breast, thyroid and salivary glands - cytology, histology and special methods, such as immunohistochemistry, molecular biology, etc. as well as in predictive pathology (detection of markers predicting response to targeted therapy) and quality control in pathology. Principal investigator and co-investigator of 17 research projects. Technical assessor (ISO 15189) in pathology since 2005, collaboration with Czech Institute for Accreditation and Irish National Accreditation Board.

Author and co-author of 199 full-text articles in peer-reviewed journals, of a book Fine needle aspiration cytology of thyroid gland and of multiple book chapters. Total 2151 records in the SCI (excl. self-citations), h-index=24.

Invited speaker at multiple national and international meetings (Czech Republic, Slovakia, Germany, Brazil, Hungary, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, Croatia, Austria, Australia, Poland, Macedonia, Ireland, Bulgaria, France, Spain, Netherlands, UK, USA). Tutor at the courses of European School of Pathology (thyroid gland pathology).
